Ford GT40 MKII #96 Daytona White/Black/Blue/Gold

Tinker Trivia: "One interesting aspect of the Ford GT40 MKII #96 Daytona is its connection to the iconic race known as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GT40 was developed by Ford in an attempt to beat Ferrari, which had dominated the Le Mans race for several years. Ford's efforts paid off in 1966 when they achieved a historic victory at Le Mans.

While the GT40 #96 Daytona itself did not win at Le Mans, it played a crucial role in the race. In the 1966 Le Mans race, three GT40 MKII cars crossed the finish line in a historic photo finish, securing a 1-2-3 victory for Ford. The GT40s took first, second, and third places, marking the first time an American manufacturer had won the prestigious endurance race.

However, the car with number 96, driven by Ken Miles and Denny Hulme, faced a controversial situation. It was leading the race with a comfortable margin until the Ford executives decided they wanted a symbolic photo finish with all three GT40s crossing the line together. As a result, Miles was instructed to slow down and let the second-placed car, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, catch up.

This decision cost Miles and Hulme the chance to win the race, as McLaren and Amon officially took the victory due to starting the race farther behind. Nonetheless, the 1966 Le Mans race remains an iconic moment in motorsport history, and the GT40's dominance and the story of the photo finish have become legendary."
